Elevate

A 600-member faith community spent five years on Discord. We moved it into its own beautiful, branded iOS app, then shipped it through three Apple rejections to the App Store.

Why we built it

Five years of a global vision, running on Discord.

Matt Moore founded Elevate on January 1, 2022 as a survival strategy, not a business move. A place to surround himself with young men building businesses, training, and showing up to church. Four years later it had grown past 600 members worldwide and become a registered nonprofit. And the entire thing still ran on Discord.

Discord was, in his words, the "achilles heel." No way to see who was actually engaged. No way to show donors more than a chat server. The nonprofit's identity vanished behind Discord's grey the moment a member opened the app. He wrestled with it for five years, not for lack of vision but for lack of the capacity to build the real thing.

"I am casting this global vision to impact millions of lives, I am pitching donors to support it, and all I have to show for a platform is a Discord community?"

Matt Moore, Co-Founder

The gauntlet

Shipped through three Apple rejections.

Getting an app onto the App Store is the proof. Getting it on after Apple rejects it three times, each citing a different guideline, each demanding a new compliance audit, new documentation, and a new test suite, is the real measure.

Guideline 2.1a meant a full moderation menu on every post and a public profile for every author. Guideline 1.2 meant a new EULA with explicit zero-tolerance language, a blocked-users system, and moderation parity between feed and chat. Guideline 2.3.3 meant a fresh set of store screenshots. Each was a feature build under time pressure, with a live community waiting. A proactive audit even caught a moderation button that resolved reports without actually removing the content, a safety hole nobody had reported. We fixed it before anyone asked.

"After all these years of dreaming up a custom platform with our branding, premium customer experience, user engagement data, and key features that we always wished we had... well now today we've built it."

Matt Moore

How we got there

Built on research, not guesswork.

Before a single line of code, the hard problems were researched and resolved up front: the data model, the moderation and safety architecture, and every Apple compliance requirement, across ten domains. Every decision that followed was grounded in that research, not a guess. The result is an app built right the first time, instead of patched into shape later.

Every behavior, every database policy, and every feature's true status is documented and verified against the code, so the app carries more institutional memory than most startups have after years. Underneath, the foundation already holds the next chapter: prayer requests, challenges with streaks, volunteer matching, reading plans, and donations, all designed and ready for UI.

What changed

Matt finally knows who shows up.

Before, the team worked as data collectors, running constant 1:1 check-ins just to know who was engaged. Now it is one screen: real engagement scores, event RSVPs, and member activity. The brand travels with the community from onboarding to feed to DM, in Elevate's own indigo and gold instead of Discord's grey. When Matt pitches donors, he opens an iOS app, not a chat server, and the credibility gap that undercut five years of fundraising closes.
